Key Facts
DriveTime is a 60 minute Pre-Driver and Drug Driving theatre-in-education programme for Years 10 & 11 comprising a 35 minute play and a 25 minute workshop. The maximum audience size is 250, but schools with 200 or more in their year group should consider booking 2 performances to maximise the effectiveness of the programme.

What's the Story?
Michael Clarke is a classic 16 year old - moody, mixed up and desperate to be popular. But Michael's life seems to be going nowhere. Then he passes his driving test. The CAR seems to provide the perfect solution to all his worries; learn to drive, own a motor, and he'll be the envy of his friends and the answer to every girl's prayer! As the play unfolds, we discover that the image he acquires as a young driver is not quite the one he set out to achieve...
What do the students learn?
DriveTime examines all the factors that can affect the attitude of a young driver: friends, family, the media and the need to impress. It pays particular attention to drug driving, highlighting the facts of this worryingly increasing trend. Forum theatre and actor-led discussion activities demonstrate:
  • responsible behaviour by both driver and passenger
  • the effects of drugs on drivers
  • how to get out of a car when you are unhappy with other's behaviour
By the end, the students will understand that all occupants of a car have a responsibility for its safety.
